E-Cigarette General FAQ

Answers

Can I continue to smoke regular cigarettes while using an electronic cigarette?

Yes, you can. However, many people find the e-cigarette to be a better, more convenient, less expensive alternative to traditional tobacco cigarettes and choose to not do so. The choice is entirely yours.

Can I use an electronic cigarette in places where smoking is not allowed?

Property owners have the right to decide what is and is not allowed on their property. Don’t be surprised if you are questioned about your e-cigarette use since it looks similar to a traditional cigarette and the vapor you exhale looks like smoke. Often, you only have to explain to people what the electronic cigarette is, and you will find that most people are accepting (many are even welcoming and encouraging) of it. The electronic cigarette contains no tobacco, produces no second hand smoke, leaves no lingering foul odor, and uses no fire. These are the primary complaint of most people about traditional cigarettes. That said, I encourage you to respect the wishes of property owners and follow their rules, just as you would expect of them on your property.

Does an electronic cigarette produce smoke?

The "smoke" that is released from the E-Cigarette is simply a propylene glycol (or vegetable glycol, depending on the manufacturer) based vapor that evaporates into the air within seconds. E-Cigarettes leaves no residue in the air, does not produce second hand smoke, and leaves no lingering odor. Propylene Glycol is an ingredient found in many items, such as food coloring, hand sanitizers, and other food items.

Does the electronic cigarette vapor have an odor?

No, the vapor has no lingering or bad odor.

How do electronic cigarettes work?

The electronic cigarette is composed of a cartridge, an atomizing device, and a battery. When a person draws in on the electronic cigarette (automatic battery models), or presses the button to turn on the e-cigarette (manual battery models), this causes the battery to power the atomizer. The atomizer converts the liquid nicotine from the cartridge into a vapor (by atomization, hence the name of the component), which is then inhaled by the user. Simultaneously, a propylene glycol (or vegetable glycol, depending on the manufacturer) based vapor is released from the cartridge by the atomizer to resemble ‘smoke’. Propylene Glycol is an ingredient found in many items, such as food coloring, hand sanitizers, and other food items, and is not toxic. It should not be confused with the unfortunately similar named ethylene glycol, which is found in antifreeze and is toxic.

How does the cost of electronic cigarettes compare to traditional cigarettes?

Without a doubt, you will spend less. Based on 1 pack of traditional cigarettes per day x $6.00/pack, in 30 days you will have spent $180 on cigarettes. For electronic cigarettes during that same period: based on 3 10mL bottles of E-Liquid per month (this will vary based on your e-cig usage. Most people get about 1- 1 1/2 weeks from each bottle) x $8.95/bottle, comes out to $26.85. That is only 1/5 the cost of regular cigarettes! In many states, the cost per pack of cigarettes is in the $8-10 range. Keep in mind that most new e-cigarette users do tend to go through more e-liquid than veteran users do. This is a normal thing as you are getting used to your e-cigarette. You may also want to check out our cost savings calculator located here.

What is an electronic cigarette cartridge?

An electronic cigarette cartridge is one of the three main components of an electronic cigarette. It is the part of the e-cigarette that contains the flavored nicotine liquid. The E-Cigarette, which was invented in 2003, is an electronic atomizing device that has quickly gained popularity. It is typically composed of three parts: a cartridge, which holds the flavored nicotine liquid, an atomizer, which heats the liquid from the cartridge and converts it into a vapor and a battery, which powers the atomizer. E-liquid is used to refill cartridges for your electronic cigarette. E-Liquid, often referred to as nicotine juice or e-juice, is the solution that is contained within the cartridges and is eventually vaporized to produce the vapor resembling smoke that you see. At First Vapor, we have a variety of different flavors of e-liquid in different nicotine strengths to satisfy your needs. Typically, 5-10 drops will sufficiently refill your cartridge. Alternatively, many people prefer to "drip" E-Liquid directly onto the atomizer. Please note that this is not the advised method, as it is easy to over-drip and cause damage to your battery. Damage caused to your e-cigarette from 'dripping' will void your battery warranty.
